Cycling & (Downhill) Mountainbiking
There are plenty of cycling opportunities in the Marche area. From cycle-touring to road cycling to xc riding to enduro and downhill mountain biking.
Numerous picturesque hilltop castellos and citadels such as Mondavio and Montemaggiore are linked with 100s of kilometres of quiet country roads which wind through the hills and mountains of the Marche area.
This makes the area ideal for cycle-touring between villages and stopping off for an espresso and some real Italian food, or the perfect early season road cycling and cyclocross training ground.
This massive network of country roads provides plenty of options to extend rides or shorten them and allows you to appreciate the beauty of the region and small town Italy life. With the largest climb on stage 8 of the 2019 Giro d’Italia (Monte Della Mattera) only 15kms away, you know the area has potential for some stunning and challenging rides.
There are a number mountain bike trail networks in the area, the closest and most developed being known as Cesane bike park on the outskirts of Fossombrone, 16kms or a 20 minute drive away. There are 10 official trails here (and more unofficial) that range from natural xc/trail blue grade tracks to single black jump/flow trails and a double black downhill track with drops and rockgardens. These trails are mainly 2kms or longer and drop an average of 400 metres. These tracks can be shuttled as it has an asphalt road climbing to the top of the mountain.
